The Going Curly of Nanette:
Moving from California to Georgia at the age of 16 was quite an experience. Coming from an extremely diverse area to a mainly black and white county was culture shock at it's best. After a year in what to me seemed cookie cutter territory, I decided to change it up... I was going natural. My brother had locs for years and was telling me how liberating it was to be in a natural state. So I grew my hair out my entire senior year of high school, educating myself on this new journey I was about to embark on. After graduation I went for the big chop! Off it came all the chemicals, all the breakage, all the lye! And in the mirror I saw beautiful little ringlets, soft and short. I was in love! Over the next 2 years I twisted and combed, braided, bantu knotted, flat twisted and colored! I had a ball! It became a comfort and time of meditation to sit with a moisturizer and run my fingers through my damp kins and curls and create. I have been natural for over 9 years and have rediscovered my hair along the way.
It amazes me how it changes with length and learning what works for my texture. I have blossomed into a full grown person striving to cultivate an organic lifestyle loving my life enough to nuture myself with the raw essence that nature has to provide. So many beautiful women & men have crossed my path with a nod of acceptance, a greeting of appreciation, a question of "ooo how can I get my hair like that!?" Grace come in the curve of a smile... and as I have found in the curl of my hair! So I intend to share what I have learned along the way, helping others to GROW ORGANIC HAIR!
